Jasper – Memorial Hospital Foundation has announced this year’s recipient of the Kathleen M. Tempel Nursing Scholarship, and the recipient is Ronica Maki of Jasper, Indiana. Ms. Maki graduated from Marengo High School in 1995, and attended Oakland City University; she currently plans to continue her nursing education at VUJC in Jasper and achieve her BSN designation. The scholarship was created in memory of the late Kathy Tempel, Vice President of Patient Services, at Memorial Hospital and Health Care Center. This year Ms. Maki will receive $1,500.00 to help her achieve her nursing degree.

Nineteen scholarship applications were completed and submitted to the Memorial Hospital Foundation office by the March 1, 2016, deadline. A panel of three judges read the applications and selected Ms. Maki as the recipient.

In addition to the scholarship’s main criterion of pursuing a ASN or BSN, registered nurse designation, the following criteria were also be taken into consideration: the applicant’s desire to practice in the southern Indiana area, financial need, academic records (achievements and honors, grades, SAT scores, and attendance), and community involvement that indicated care and concern for people and the community.
