Charles E. Knust, age 78, of Jasper, Indiana, passed away at 9:45 a.m. on Friday, January 19, 2018, at St. Vincent’s Hospital in Indianapolis, Indiana.

Charlie was born in Jasper, Indiana, on March 15, 1939, to Louis and Leona (Schmitt) Knust.  He married Gladys (Schitter) Lechner on May 22, 1962, in St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Ireland, Indiana.

He worked as a car salesman for Sternberg’s in Jasper.  Throughout his life, he and his wife owned and operated the Sunset Tavern, Sunset Laundry and Dry Cleaners, and the Pizza Shack.  He also worked in land and neighborhood development, buying and selling land and homes.

He was a member of Holy Family Catholic Church in Jasper, Jasper K of C, Jasper Moose, Jasper Outdoor REC, Kiwanis Club, and the Jasper German Club.

Charlie enjoyed playing cards, golfing, traveling, and spending time with family and friends.

Surviving are his wife, Gladys Knust, Jasper, IN,  two daughters, Donna (David) Byers, Louisville, KY, Stacy Bromm, and companion, Bryon Schneider, Jasper, IN, one son, Perry (Carolyn) Knust, Apex, NC, two grandchildren, Dara Byers and Jenna Bromm, three great grandchildren, Jakub, Jadelynn and Jaxon,  one brother, Earl (Shirley) Knust, Jasper, IN.

Preceding him in death besides his parents, are two sisters, Dorothy Fehribach, and one that died in infancy,  and one brother, Robert Knust.

A Mass of Christian Burial for Charles E. Knust will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday, January 24, 2018, at Holy Family Catholic Church in Jasper, with entombment to follow in the Fairview Cemetery Mausoleum.

A visitation will be held from 2:00-7:00 p.m. on Tuesday, January 23, 2018, at the Becher-Kluesner Downtown Chapel in Jasper.  Holy Family Parish will pray a rosary at 1:45 p.m. at the funeral home.  The Jasper Moose will conduct a ritual at 6:00 p.m. at the funeral home as well.

Memorial contributions may be made to Holy Family Catholic Church or to a favorite charity.
