A Huntingburg home sustained minimal damage as the result of a chimney fire earlier today.

Just before 8 o’clock this morning crews with the Huntingburg Volunteer Fire Department were called to a home located along the 200 block of North Chestnut Street.

When firefighters arrived at the residence of Wally and Carolyn Hollander, they discovered smoke coming from a chimmney as well as the rear of the home.

Huntingburg Fire Investigator John C. Smith says the flu was attached to a wood burning stove that the Hollanders use for heat and the fire was attributed to a build up of creosote.

He says firefighters laddered the roof and used a weight and chain in order to clean out the build up of creosote and provided ventillation to the home.

Smith says there was no significant damage to the home. No injuries were reported.

16 firefighters and 4 trucks responded and were on the scene for about an hour.
