The Indiana Department of Transportation announces an update for the closure of State Road 65 between Owensville and S.R. 64.
INDOT Crews are on scene working on a temporary solution reopen S.R. 65 after this weekend’s flooding events. Crews will take out the guardrail, remove the asphalt from the hole and refill with stone and top it off and seal it with asphalt millings. No permanent layer of asphalt will be applied at this time because the concrete bridge approach will need to be rebuilt as a result of the erosion damage. The road is expected to open this week depending upon weather conditions.
Signs will be placed at both the north and south end of the area once the road is reopened. Motorists should also be on the lookout for a reduced speed limit on S.R. 65 until the road can be permanently repaired.
The detour for heavy truck traffic will be S.R. 168, U.S. 41 and S.R.64 until the road reopens.
During the most recent rain event, water breached the drainage facilities in the area and flooded the roadway at SR 65. This caused significant erosion and a failure of the roadway. INDOT maintenance and bridge crews were dispatched to the scene where they immediately closed the road and performed and inspection of the road and bridge in this area. INDOT urges drivers to slow down and stay alert near crews. Please follow us on social media for further updates on S.R. 65 and many other projects and events.
