A Jasper woman was placed under arrest on drug related charges plus a charge of OWI on Wednesday morning.

The woman who was identified as 40 year old Dawn Prechtel had been involved in a vehicle accident earlier in the morning at the southside McDonald’s along US HWY 231 south in Jasper.  She was later seen searching through landscaping at the fast food restaurant before she left the scene once again after noticing police had seen her.

At 8:30 am Jasper Police observed Prechtel going through a bush in the restaurants landscaping and after one of the officers recognized her from the vehicle accident Prechtel left the area quickly.

Two officers, along with the department’s K9 unit, went to McDonald’s and upon doing so located a maroon pouch near the base of the bush.

Police say there were two syringes sticking out of the top of the pouch. Upon further investigation it was discovered that the pouch contained 2 fully loaded syringes of Heroin, another empty syringe, a clear plastic baggy containing a grayish powder that later tested positive for Heroin, a clear plastic baggy containing a crystal like substance that was identified as Methamphetamine, and 5 different types of medication.

Police say evidence located at McDonalds was taken to the Jasper Police Department where it was field tested and identified.

Police located Prechtel in the Big Lots parking lot a short time later. She was detained for investigation. Authorities determined the drug items to be hers and also stated that during the investigation Prechtel showed signs of impairment.

She tested positive for a multiple collection of drugs in her system at Memorial hospital including oxycodone and methamphetamine.

Prechtel was taken to and booked into the Dubois County Security Center on preliminary charges of Possession of a Syringe, Possession of Heroin, Possession of Methamphetamine, Maintaining a Common Nuisance, 5 Counts of Possession of a Controlled Substance, and Operating While Intoxicated.
