A Huntingburg man caused a commotion after reports came in from a local gas station of an impaired person.

27-year-old Jeffrey Thomas of Huntingburg was arrested after resisting and ignoring police commands on Wednesday.

Wednesday afternoon Huntingburg police were notified of a possibly impaired person at the gas pumps at Huck’s gas. When police arrived the driver, later identified as Thomas left the station and traveled to 12th street where police observed a traffic violation. Thomas made it to his residence where officers made contact with him.

Police say that after making contact with Thomas he immediately became uncooperative and told officers to leave the property several times before trying to put his window up when asked to step out of the vehicle.

Officers then forcibly opened the door to the vehicle and Thomas refused to exit. Police then removed him from the vehicle and placed him into handcuffs.

Huntingburg Police say a K-9 officer was on scene and the K-9 alerted on the vehicle. A search of the vehicle was done with police finding marijuana.

Thomas was transported to Memorial Hospital for medical clearance prior to being lodged in the Dubois County Security Center where he is facing preliminary charges of Resisting Law Enforcement and Possession of Marijuana.
