Jay Elbert Houchin, age 64, of Huntingburg, passed away on Tuesday, February 27, 2018.

He is survived by his wife, Carrie (Merrell) Houchin of Huntingburg; two daughters and one son-in-law, Margaret (Brad) Coomer of Jasper and Lucy Houchin of Birmingham, England; his mother, Anetta Houchin of Jasper; one sister, Randalyn Clabaugh of Jasper; and one granddaughter, Georgia Coomer. Jay was preceded in death by his father, Elbert Frank Houchin.

The son of Elbert and Anetta (Rice) Houchin, Jay was born May 13, 1953 in Evansville, Indiana. He married Carrie Merrell in 1976 in Noblesville, Indiana. He was Vice President of Live Production at Farbest Foods and a respected leader in the turkey industry. He served on several local, state, and national industry councils. Above all, he was a devoted husband, a loving father, a wonderful grandfather, and a true friend.

With his family and friends, Jay enjoyed life fully – through good food and music, by visiting new places, and being outdoors. He took care of those around him and was a friend you could always call on. He was a husband, a father, a friend, and a man that many admired.

Memorial services for Jay E. Houchin will be held at 11:00 a.m., E.S.T., on Tuesday, March 6, 2018, at Salem United Church of Christ in Huntingburg.

Friends may call for visitation at the Nass & Son Funeral Home in Huntingburg from 2:00-8:00 p.m., on Monday, March 5th; and also at the church from 10:00-11:00 a.m., on Tuesday, prior to the memorial service.  Memorial contributions can be made to the Huntingburg Market Street Park Endowment c/o Dubois County Community Foundation, the Amelia Endowment c/o Dubois County Community Foundation, or to a favorite charity.  Condolences may be shared with the family online at:
