Sunday evening the Indiana State Police Jasper Post responded to an accident involving an impaired driver who after driving a stolen vehicle crashed the vehicle into a barrier wall south of Birdseye.

33-year-old Cory Dupin of Louisville Kentucky was traveling north on SR 145 near Borden Hill Road in a 2006 Chevy Trailblazer when he disregarded three INDOT Road Closure signs before striking a barrier wall head-on shortly before reaching a bridge that is out of service.

Trooper Steven Nolan said that Dupin appeared to be in an impaired state possibly on a controlled substance. It was later confirmed that Dupin was indeed under the influence of a controlled substance and tested positive for methamphetamine through an urinalysis test. It was also confirmed that Dupin was in possession of a stolen vehicle after police did a check of the blazers id number which indicated that the vehicle had been reported stolen out of Louisville that same day.

Dupin was booked into the Dubois County Security Center early Monday morning on various charges including: Auto Theft a Level 6 Felony, Operating While Intoxicated Controlled Substance and Operating While Intoxicated both class C Misdemeanors and Operating While intoxicated Endangering a Class A Misdemeanor
