John Wayne Blemker, age 70, of Huntingburg, passed away at 6:13 a.m., on Wednesday, March 28, 2018, at his home.

He was born May 18, 1947, in Huntingburg, Indiana to Edgar and Mildred K. (Schmett) Blemker; and married Leanna Thompson on August 21, 1971, at the Huntingburg United Methodist Church.  John was a retired industrial arts teacher having taught at Southridge, Northeast Dubois and Forest Park High Schools; a softball coach; and assistant football coach.  He was a member of the Huntingburg United Methodist Church, the Marine Family Support Group of Dubois County, the Tri-State Marine Family Support Group of Evansville, and was a local Toys for Tots program volunteer.  John enjoyed farming; hunting and fishing; and was known for his candy making.  He was preceded in death by his parents; and one brother, Jerald Blemker.

John is survived by his wife, Leanna Blemker of Huntingburg; one son, Jason Blemker of Andover, Minnesota; one brother, Jim (Millie) Blemker of Holland; and his grandson, Jace Blemker.  He also leaves behind a large group of students and athletes, particularly from the girls’ softball team, who considered him a friend, mentor and father figure.

Friends may call for visitation at the Nass & Son Funeral Home in Huntingburg from 2:00-8:00 p.m., on Saturday, April 7, 2018.  A memorial service will be held privately for the family.  In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to the Huntingburg United Methodist Church Memorial Fund for youth and outreach.  Condolences may be shared online at:  www.nassandson.com
