Jasper city letter carriers and rural letter carriers, with the support of the Jasper postmaster, supervisor, clerk craft and other volunteers, will stage a blitz this Saturday May 12th, to combat hunger in Dubois County, in conjunction with the National Association of Letter Carrier annual “Stamp Out Hunger” Food Drive in every U.S. State and Jurisdiction.

The drive in its 26th year is the largest one-day food collection in the nation and the biggest community service effort by any union affiliated with the AFL-CIO.

Jasper city letter carriers will focus their efforts on re-stocking the community food bank, where many Dubois County families will rely on throughout the summer. The carrier will collect the non-perishable items as they make their appointed rounds on the 12th.

Residents are asked to put their donated items in or under the mailbox and the carrier will collect and deliver them to the local food bank.

Last year the drive delivered 74 million pounds of non-perishable items to local food banks and organizations which was the 8th consecutive year the total surpassed 70 million pounds.

The Jasper Post Office collected 3 tons last year which went to the Dubois County Food Bank.

Last years figures brought the overall total for the nationwide drives history to more than 14-hundred million pounds. The Jasper Post office has collected 147-thousand pounds in the past 24 years, all going to the Dubois County Food Bank.
