A Jasper couple was placed under arrest on numerous charges including OWI and neglect of a dependent after authoties were called to the report of an impaired couple with children at the Jasper Swimming Pool.

Just before 2 pm Saturday officers with the Jasper Police Department were contacted by an employee of the Jasper Municipal Swimming Pool who reported that two adults possibly under the influence were swimming at the pool with two children.

When police arrived at the pool they found and made contact with 37-year old Jonathan Hunsicker and 35-year old Hope Heinz of Jasper and determined that they where under the influence of alcohol- both registered on a Portable Breath Test at over .30 percent, well over 3 and a half times the legal limit.

Police say after asking both Hunsicker and Heinz to leave the pool, Heinz became disorderly, cursing and yelling.

They say contact was made with a sober party to pick up Hunsicker, Heinz and the children. Child Protective Services was also contacted due to Hunsicker and Heinz’s level of intoxication. Child Protective Services advised that they would meet Jasper Police at the couple’s residence along the 2500 block of Birk Drive in Jasper to conduct a interview.

When police arrived at Hunsicker’s address about an hour later, they say Hunsicker was in the drivers seat of his SUV with the engine running, with Heinz in the passenger seat and the children in the back of the vehicle.

Police say after managing to get both parties out of the vehicle, Heinz became disorderly once again, yelling, cursing, and being belligerent.

Due to the level of Hunsicker and Heinz’s intoxication the two were taken to Memorial Hospital for medical clearance before they were taken to the Dubos County Security Center where they were booked for OWI, Neglect of a Dependent and Disorderly Conduct.

Police say while at the hospital, Heinz continued her disorderly behavior. Child Protective Services handed over custody of the children to their biological mother.
