An early morning accident resulted in two injured patrons today.

At around 2:50 AM this morning, Milagro Cortez Funes, 28, was driving their 2007 Nissan Rouge with passenger Rene Antonio Vanegas eastbound on 15th Street and for an unknown reason went off the south side of the roadway just east of the Patoka River bridge. The vehicle then struck a tree and continued east bound before landing on its side facing east. The vehicle was resting on a chain link fence, when it caught on fire. Funes crawled from the vehicle. Vanegas had to be pulled out of the burning vehicle by Jasper Police Officers. The vehicle became fully engulfed in flames before being put out by the Jasper Fire Department.

Funes sustained multiple injuries, with the most severe being a fractured femur in her right leg. Vanegas also sustained multiple injuries, with the most severe being facial injuries.

Dubois Count Sheriff’s Department was assisted by: Jasper Police Department, Jasper Fire Department, Memorial Hospital EMS, Uebelhor & Sons Wrecker Service.
