A fire of unknown origin broke out in a two vehicle garage on Jasper’s north side this morning destroying all of its contents including a passenger van.

Crews with the Jasper Volunteer Fire Department were called to a home located along the end of East 37th Street around 10:30 this morning.

Jasper Fire Chief Kenny Hochgesang says the detached garage was fully involved when they arrived. Entry was gained through a side door of the structure which Hochgesang pointed out was made of metal which kept all the flames and heat inside the building.

The garage and it’s contents were a total loss. Hochgesang also noted that firefighters dealt with several small explosions that were likely the result of some aerosol cans and tires on the van succumbing to the heat of the blaze.

25 men along with five trucks responded and were on the scene for about one hour.

The cause of the fire has yet to be determined.
