An early morning crash involving an SUV and a moped has sent one rider to St. Vincent

At approximately 6:11 AM this morning, officers with the Ferdinand Police Department were dispatched to the intersection of State Road 162 and West 23rd in reference to a car/moped crash. 28-year old Lauren Schwartz of Ferdinand was traveling west from East 23rd Street through the intersection of West 23rd Street in her 2018 Ford Explorer. 58-year-old Steven Beard of Ferdinand was traveling southbound on State Road 162 on his 2014 TAO 50cc Moped. Schwartz stated that she did not see the moped until the moped crashed into the passenger’s side of her SUV. Beard was taken by ambulance to Memorial Hospital and then taken to St. Vincents for his injuries.

Ferdinand Police was assisted by the Ferdinand Fire Department, Memorial Hospital Ambulance service, and Berg’s Wrecker Service. The crash is still under investigation.
