Jasper has six new interns for the summer to help with future community projects. Internships offered by the city are made to assist with career development by providing work experiences that provide young adults with opportunities to explore their interests and professional skills and abilities within the city government.

The Community Development and Planning Department welcomes Samantha Kabrick as an intern for the summer. Kabrick is a Jasper native, and a junior at Indiana University pursuing a major in Marketing and a minor in Spanish. Under the supervision of the Community Development and Planning Department Director Darla Blazey, Kabrick will be involved in many projects surrounding the redevelopment of Jasper. She will develop a marketing plan for the City of Jasper, work on the Main Street Program, assist with the development of the Comprehensive Plan, translate permits and support materials in Spanish, take minutes at meetings and work on other projects for the department.

 

The Park and Recreation Department welcomes intern Andrew Schmitt for the summer of 2019. Schmitt, a Jasper native, is a junior at Indiana University-Purdue University Indianapolis studying Marketing and Management. Under the supervision of Recreation Director Janessa Wagner and Park Director Ken Buck, Schmitt will work in a variety of areas in the department including the Jasper Municipal Pool, The Parklands of Jasper and more. He will also assist in running various summer programs that the Park and Recreation Department offers to the community.

 

 

The Mayor’s Office welcomes Kathleen Messmer as an intern for the summer. Messmer, a Jasper native, is a junior at Purdue University, where she is studying Public Relations and Strategic Communications with minors in Global Studies and Anthropology. Working under the supervision of Mayor Dean Vonderheide and Director of Personnel/Safety/Loss Control Cale Knies, Messmer will assist with a variety of tasks. She will create a social media plan and craft content to promote the City of Jasper, plan and execute marketing items for the Mayor’s office.

 

 

The Legal Department welcomes intern Logan Bromm for the summer. Bromm, a Jasper native, is a junior at Indiana University-Purdue University Indianapolis pursuing a degree in Political Science and History with a certification in Business. Under the supervision of City Attorney Renee Kabrick, Bromm will engage in day to day operations of the department and the greater city government. He will be involved in projects including the revamping of the City’s filing system and the development of a mobile food vendor ordinance.

 

 

The Arts Department welcomes Maggie Getzin as an intern for the summer of 2019. A Jasper native, Getzin is a sophomore at Ball State University studying Journalism Graphics. She will be working under the supervision of Visual Arts Coordinator Emily Peak and Jasper Community Arts Program Coordinator Corina Mack. Getzin will assist with the Arts Department several projects, tasks and events such as the Chalk Walk, assistance with the Krempp Gallery and ARTventures.

 

 

 

 

The Arts Department also welcomes Melanie Patterson as an intern for the summer of 2019. Paterson, a Jasper native, is a sophomore at Indiana University pursuing a degree in Theatre. She will be working under the supervision of Technical Director and Building Manager Doreen Lechner, learning about managing the facility and the work that is performed backstage. Patterson will also assist with technical aspects of theatrical productions as well as lighting, sound systems, and set design.
