The torrential rain is not only affecting corn and soybeans, but it is also having a large effect on the county’s hay.

People across the county are needing hay, but a large portion of it is not being harvested…due to the persistent wet weather.

Ken Eck, an educator at the Purdue Extension office of Dubois County explains.

The rainy weather makes it quite a challenge for farmers to harvest hay…if harvested wet, it could decrease the quality of it.

And if hay is put in a barn before it is dried properly, it could even set the barn on fire.

Eck says it is better to get your hay sooner rather than later.
