Water adventurers will soon see new signs around the Patoka River Dam.

The Jasper Common Council approved a new ordinance at last week’s meeting about posting new dangerous current warning signs around the Patoka River Dam.

Experts say that as the season changes, the drowning risk increases.

The low head at the dam’s base creates a circular current, trapping victims underneath until the water spits them out.

The Jasper Safety Director, Cale Kneis says they are posting the signs due to growing numbers of people visiting where the dam is located.
