One person was injured in a crash involving a Southeast Dubois County school bus.

It happened on County Road 400 South, East of Pine Ridge Road on Tuesday morning.

The bus driver noticed a pick-up truck driving over the center-line and tried to pull over, but the pick-up truck continued going into the bus’s lane, crashing into it head-on.

The pick-up truck driver, identified as 53-year-old Blake Gutgsell of Birdseye, suffered a head injury. He was transported to Memorial Hospital in Jasper before being flown to St. Vincent Hospital in Evansville for further treatment.

No students were on the bus at the time of the accident.

The cause of the crash is still under investigation. Drugs and alcohol are not suspected to be a factor in the accident.

The school bus suffered around $5,000 in damages. Gutgsell’s pick-up truck is a total loss.
