Dalphus E. “Dal” Looney Jr., age 77, of Dubois, Indiana, passed away surrounded by family at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday, September 26, 2023, at Memorial Hospital and Health Care Center in Jasper, Indiana.

Dal was born on May 19, 1946, to Dalphus Sr. and Anna (Zehr) Looney.  He married Sandy Palmer, and she preceded him in death on April 18, 2021.

Dal was a 1964 graduate of Dubois High School.

He retired after 23 years of being a Boilermaker for the Local Boilermakers Union.

Dal enjoyed being outdoors, fishing, driving his tractor, and spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren.

Surviving are one daughter, DeAnn (Greg) Meyer, Dubois, IN, six grandchildren, Candi, Michael, Richard, Ashley, Isaac, and Rachel, 13 great-grandchildren, two sisters, Barbara Crenshaw, French Lick, IN, and Mag (Brad) Beal, Indianapolis, IN, and nieces and nephews.

Preceding him in death besides his wife are two sons, Kevin and Mark Looney, one daughter, Terri Lasley, and one brother, Larry Looney.

A visitation will be held from 2:00-7:00 p.m. on Saturday, September 30, 2023, at the Becher-Kluesner North Chapel in Jasper, Indiana. 

A prayer service will be held at 7:00 p.m. at the funeral home on Saturday.  Pastor Timothy Fleace will officiate.  Private family burial will be held at a later date.
