Each year, Smithsonian Magazine celebrates the many small towns that make up the heart of America. This year, Huntingburg Indiana made the ranking amongst the 15 best small towns, designated as the “Baseball-Obsessed Small Town.”
The article highlights the Huntingburg League Stadium, featured as the home field to the “Peaches” in the hit-motion picture, “A League of Their Own.” Tours are available that showcase the vintage outfield signage from the movie, lockers, a “designated crying area”, and other movie memorabilia.
Events at the stadium this year include the August 10th Big League Baseball Classic that brings former Major League Baseball legends to the iconic stadium, the Dubois County Bombers games in June through July, and the Red, White, and Brauen Music Festival, headlining Trace Adkins on August 24th.
Smithosian magazine also mentions Huntingburg’s picturesque downtown, its impressive collection of antique stores, specialty shops and eateries, and the many “strolling” events that take place along those streets.
