Geraldine “Joan” Hasenour, age 86 of Ireland, Indiana, passed away at 2:37 a.m. on Friday, July 26, 2024 at Memorial Hospital and Health Care Center in Jasper, Indiana.

Joan was born in Montgomery, Indiana on June 21, 1938 to Oliver and Christine (Mauder) Opel.  She married Denny L. Hasenour on October 1, 1955 in St. Joseph Catholic Church in Jasper.  He preceded her in death on December 18, 2006.

She worked in the retail field for many years with the majority of her career at Sears.

Joan was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Jasper, and a member of the Jasper Fireman’s Auxiliary.

She enjoyed reading, traveling, road trips, and spending time with family and friends, especially her granddaughter Amber.   She also loved country music with the steel guitar being her favorite instrument.

She is survived by one son; Jeffrey L. Hasenour (Helen), Jasper, one granddaughter; Amber Hasenour, Jasper, and nieces and nephews.

Preceding her in death beside her husband were her parents, her step-father; Forrest Drake, and one brother, John Opel.

A Mass of Christian Burial for Geraldine “Joan” Hasenour will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday, July 31, 2024 at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Jasper, Indiana, with entombment to follow at Fairview Cemetery Mausoleum in Jasper.  

A visitation will be held from 3:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday, July 30, 2024 at the Becher-Kluesner Downtown Chapel in Jasper, and from 9:00 a.m. until the 10:00 a.m. Mass time at St. Joseph Catholic Church on Wednesday.
