Henry J. Gibbenmeyer III, a 34-year-old resident of Taswell, in rural Crawford County, has been arrested and charged with serious sexual offenses. Gibbenmeyer faces a Level 3 Felony charge of rape and a Level 6 Felony charge of sexual battery.

The charges involve the alleged abuse of two juveniles, one of whom is under 16. The case has sent shockwaves through the close-knit communities of Crawford County. According to the probable cause affidavit, the abuse was initially brought to light by school officials who promptly reported it to the Indiana Department of Child Services.

Both victims underwent forensic interviews, conducted on separate occasions and at different locations, where they detailed the abuse and its circumstances to investigators and law enforcement.

Probable cause was established, leading to Gibbenmeyer’s arrest on September 3rd. He is currently being held at the Crawford County Detention Center with a bond set at $50,000, which must be paid in full for his release.

Sexual abuse charges carry severe penalties under Indiana law. A Level 3 Felony, such as rape, can result in 3 to 16 years of imprisonment, while a Level 6 Felony, such as sexual battery, can lead to 6 months to 2.5 years of incarceration.

We will provide updates on this case as new information becomes available.
