The Friends of the Ferdinand Library are set to hold their monthly book sale on Saturday, September 14, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Attendees can enter the sale through the library’s main floor or via the north side doors off the Ferdinand Community Center’s parking lot.
This month’s sale will spotlight mystery writers, featuring a diverse selection of books by over 60 authors including Arthur Conan Doyle, Jonathan and Faye Kellerman, Patricia Cornwell, David Baldacci, Lee Child, Michael Connelly, Jeffrey Deaver, Sue Grafton, James Patterson, Preston and Child, Karin Slaughter, and many more. Additional works by these authors will be available throughout the fiction paperback and hardback sections.
In addition to the book sale, the Friends will offer a new Clue game as a raffle prize, along with three $5 coupons for use at future sales. Music enthusiasts can explore a table dedicated to music-related items, including biographies, sheet music, how-to-play books, music history volumes, DVDs, and CDs.
A special table featuring banned books will also be available, marked with yellow crime scene tape. Among these books is Ray Bradbury’s Fahrenheit 451, a novel set in a dystopian future where books are outlawed. This table will be positioned near the sale entrance.
Recent additions include young adult novels and a large collection of children’s books, which can be found in their designated sections. The Collectible Table has been reorganized for easier browsing and includes first editions, author-signed copies, vintage books, and other special volumes. Prices for most items range from $3 to $10, with some exceptions.
The jigsaw puzzle table has been restocked with new donations, ideal for the upcoming winter season. The Feature Table will showcase new additions, including a Colleen Hoover novel and Harry Potter items, with a focus on nonfiction titles.
Prices for books remain at $1 for hardbacks, $0.50 for paperbacks, and $1 for most DVDs, CDs, and audiobooks. Children’s books and puzzles are priced individually. The Friends of the Ferdinand Library can only accept cash or checks at the sale.
Donations of gently-used books, DVDs, and puzzles are always welcome. A bin is located at the back of the library near the basement door. However, the Friends cannot accept encyclopedias, textbooks, outdated informational books, or items that are musty, dusty, rodent-chewed, or stained. For the next month, only children’s magazines will be accepted.
Stay updated with the Friends of the Ferdinand Library by following their Facebook page, where new donations are regularly posted. Consider becoming a Friend for just $10 per year to get early access to books posted online. Membership pamphlets are available at the library’s main desk and during the sale. Proceeds from the sales support library programming and materials.
Additionally, the Friends will have a table at the Ferdinand Folk Festival on September 21st at the 18th Street Park, where free books and CDs will be given away.
