On September 29, 2024, Jasper Police received a complaint about reckless driving involving a vehicle reportedly making dangerous passes and speeding. Officers later spotted the car on South Newton Street, traveling at 88 mph in a 35 mph zone.

After pulling the vehicle over, the driver was identified as Anderson Avelar. Officers noted signs of impairment, and a chemical test revealed the presence of cannabinoids and a blood alcohol level of 0.223%.

Avelar was taken into custody and lodged at the Dubois County Security Center, facing charges of OWI over .15%, OWI endangerment, reckless driving, criminal recklessness, and minor consumption.

The Jasper Police Department was assisted by deputies from the Dubois County Sheriff’s Office.
