The Community Foundation Alliance, in partnership with the Warrick County Community Foundation, has secured a $6.7 million grant from Lilly Endowment Inc. through the GIFT VIII initiative. This funding will support the construction of Sanctuary on the Hill, a retreat for military veterans and their families on a 90-acre site in northern Warrick County.

The project, developed with Mission First, Inc., will include an activity center, lodge, cabins, horse barn, and recreational facilities. Phase one is underway, with phases two and three, funded by the grant, starting in early 2025. Initially serving veterans from Warrick, Gibson, Posey, and Vanderburgh counties, the facility plans to expand its reach across southern Indiana.

Designed as a healing environment, the retreat will incorporate features to address veterans’ mental health needs, fostering safety and comfort. This initiative reflects a commitment to honoring and supporting those who served.
