Southwest Dubois County School Corporation has announced that school will be in session on Friday, April 18, as a makeup day for time lost due to January’s Winter Storm Blair. The district had previously canceled classes on Wednesday, January 8, as the powerful storm brought snow and ice to southern Indiana, creating dangerous road conditions and widespread closures.

Although April 18 falls on Good Friday, the district acknowledges the importance of religious observances. Parents wishing their children to attend services on that day are encouraged to communicate with their school office, and any related absences will be certified and excused.

Winter Storm Blair swept through Indiana in early January, delivering several inches of snow, gusty winds, and freezing temperatures. Southern Indiana counties, including Dubois, experienced particularly treacherous travel conditions, prompting school closures across the region. State and local crews worked around the clock to clear roads and restore power to affected areas.

With the April 18 makeup day now confirmed, Southwest Dubois schools continue to adjust the academic calendar to ensure students fulfill required instructional hours without extending the school year further into the summer.
