 In honor of Breast Cancer Awareness MonthDaviess Community Hospital (DCH) is reminding community members about the importance of annual mammograms and the resources available to help women access care, including the Indiana Breast Cancer Awareness Trust (IBCAT) grantthat fundsfree mammograms and breast screenings for eligible women in Daviess, Martin, and Pike counties.

This year, DCH received a $5,000 grant from IBCAT, allowing the hospital to providefree screening and diagnostic breast services to qualifying patients who are uninsured or underinsured.

No one should ever have to skip a mammogram because of cost,” saidSharon Mead, RN, OCN, ONN-CG, Oncology Nurse Navigator at Daviess Community Hospital. “The IBCAT grant helps remove financial barriers and ensures that women in our community can get the screening and follow-up care they deserve.

Who Qualifies for Free Mammograms

Women may qualify if they:

  • Are age 40 or older, or under 40 and considered high-risk (family history, genetic risk, or other factors).
  • Live in Daviess, Martin, or Pike County.
  • Are uninsured or underinsured and meet program income guidelines.

Covered services include screening mammograms and follow-up diagnostic breast imaging when needed.

Supporting IBCAT Through the Breast Cancer Awareness License Plate

The Indiana Breast Cancer Awareness Trust funds grants like this one through sales of the Breast Cancer Awareness specialty license plate.

Each plate generates a $25 donation that supports free breast health services, community outreach, and college scholarships for students whose parent is battling or has lost their battle with breast cancer.

How to Purchase the Plate

Buying or switching to the Breast Cancer Awareness license plate is easy:

  • Plating a new vehicle: Ask for the Indiana Breast Cancer Awareness plate when visiting your local BMV.
  • Switching plates outside of renewal: Visit your local BMV branch and request to change your plate.
  • Switching at renewal: Go to myBMV.com, click Renew License Plates, select your vehicle, choose Change My Plate, and select “Breast Cancer Awareness”under Special Organizations.

Why It Matters

Since the license plate was introduced in 2002, more than $7 million in IBCAT grants have helped thousands of Hoosiers access breast screenings and care services. Another $131,750 has been awarded in college scholarships for Indiana students with a parent affected by breast cancer.
