If you haven’t already, now is the time to winterize your home! As temperatures drop, it’s important to take simple steps to keep your home safe and energy efficient through the winter months.

Experts recommend inspecting your chimney, cleaning out gutters, and insulating your attic and exposed pipes to prevent freezing and costly damage. Homeowners should also caulk and weather-strip doors and windows to keep warm air in and cold air out.

Don’t forget to test smoke alarms and carbon monoxide detectors, making sure they have fresh batteries or backups. It’s also a good time to gather emergency supplies, including flashlights, blankets, batteries, and nonperishable food, in case of power outages or severe weather.

Remember—your neighbors, especially those who are elderly or vulnerable, might need assistance preparing their homes as well.
