Two separate crashes involving pedestrians in Tell City left two people injured Saturday evening and led to the arrest of one driver, according to the Tell City Police Department.

Police responded to the first crash shortly before 6 p.m. on March 14 near the intersection of 12th Street and Tell Street. The investigation found that 18 year old Kaleb Harding was attempting to cross Tell Street in a marked crosswalk while the pedestrian walk signal indicated it was safe to cross.

While Harding was crossing, a 2013 Nissan turning right from Tell Street onto 12th Street struck him. Harding was taken to a medical facility with injuries that were described as not life threatening.

The driver of the vehicle, 69 year old Gary Board of Tell City, underwent a post crash evaluation conducted with assistance from a certified Drug Recognition Expert from a neighboring agency.

Officers later developed probable cause to charge Board with operating a vehicle while intoxicated resulting in bodily injury.

He was taken to the Perry County Detention Center.

Less than two hours later, officers were called to another crash involving a pedestrian at the intersection of 15th Street and Mozart Street.

Police said a 13 year old juvenile was riding a bicycle north on 15th Street and failed to stop at the posted stop sign before entering the intersection with Mozart Street. The bicyclist was then struck by a vehicle traveling west on Mozart Street.

The juvenile was also transported to a medical facility for treatment of injuries that were not believed to be life threatening.

Both crashes remain under investigation by the Tell City Police Department.

Police continue to remind drivers, pedestrians, and bicyclists to pay close attention to traffic signals and stop controls, particularly at intersections and marked crosswalks.
