Bettye L. Lee, age 85, of Velpen, passed away at 8:25 a.m., Tuesday, December 22, 2015, at St. Charles Health Campus in Jasper.

Bettye Lee obituary photo530            Bettye was born August 17, 1930 in Velpen, Indiana, to Frederick and Opal (Scott) Starkey.  She was united in marriage to Cleo Lee on December 16, 1949, in Kentucky.  Bettye was a member of the Otwell High School class of 1948 and was a graduate of the Lockyear Business College.  She worked as a self-employed tax preparer for 50 years; and served as a former Marion Township Trustee.  Bettye also worked at Ripco, the Otwell Water Corporation, and the Pike County Treasurer’s Office.  She was a lifetime member of the Velpen United Methodist Church, and held officer positions at the district level of the United Methodist Women’s Association.  Bettye enjoyed traveling, gardening, and hummingbirds.  She was preceded in death by:  her husband, Cleo Lee, who died May 19, 2002; and one sister, Beverly Allen.

She is survived by:

Two sons,

Scott (Donna) Lee of Dale, Ind.,

Ed (Joy) Lee of Velpen, Ind.;

Two daughters,

Marcia (Gary) Wagner of Jasper, Ind.,

Rachel (Randy) Clark of Velpen, Ind.;

One brother,

Doyle (Judy) Starkey of Louisville, Kentucky;

by (6) grandchildren, (2) step grandchildren, (11) great grandchildren and (7) step great grandchildren.

Funeral services for Bettye L. Lee will be held at 10:00 a.m., E.S.T., onMonday, December 28, 2015, at the Nass & Son Funeral Home in Huntingburg with burial to follow at Walnut Grove Cemetery in Velpen.

Friends may call for visitation at the Nass & Son Funeral Home in Huntingburg from 2:00-8:00 p.m., E.S.T., on Sunday.  Memorial contributions can be made to the Walnut Grove Cemetery Association.  Condolences may be shared online at: www.nassandson.com.
