Alan F. “Al” Sollman, age 68, of Huntingburg, passed away at 12:00 noon, on Monday, July 18, 2016, at his residence.
He was born August 11, 1947, at Stork Memorial Hospital in Huntingburg to Elmo “Poppy” and Wilma “Mimi” (Burns) Sollman. He married Deborah Deich on May 11, 1984, at Salem United Church of Christ in Huntingburg. Al was enlisted in the United States Air Force from 1966-1972 and served in the Vietnam War as an Air Force C130 Crew Chief. He served in the Army National Guard from 1973-1990, retiring with the rank Sergeant First Class. In the early 1970’s until 1990, he was employed as a salesman for Phillip Morris and worked at Wabash Foods until his retirement. After retirement, he went to work at the Buffalo Trace and Ruxer Golf Courses in Jasper.
Al enjoyed participating in the Huntingburg Little League program where he was a baseball coach from 1978-1981. He also served as a scout master from 1979-1981 for Cub Scout Pack #184; and was instrumental in bringing the Boy Scout Popcorn Fundraising program to our community. He was a lifetime member of the Huntingburg Veterans of Foreign Wars Post #2366; an avid dart and golf enthusiast; and a founder of the Huntingburg Dart League and participant in the Dubois County Amateur Golf Tourney for the past 25 years. Alan was preceded in death by his parents, Elmo and Wilma Sollman.

Kathy (Larry) Vonderheide of Huntingburg, Ind.;
by (9) grandchildren and (1) great grandchild.
Memorial services for Alan F. “Al” Sollman will be held at 2:00 p.m., E.D.T., on Saturday, July 23, 2016, at the Nass & Son Funeral Home in Huntingburg followed by military honors conducted by the V.F.W. Post #2366 Memorial Detail.
Friends may call for visitation at the Nass & Son Funeral Home from 11:00 a.m.-2:00 p.m., on Saturday, the day of the memorial service. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to the family. Friends are invited to participate in two upcoming events dear to Al’s heart – a Memorial Dart Tourney at the Gaslight and a Memorial Golf Outing.
