Mildred “Millie” D. Schum, age 89, of Jasper, Indiana, passed away at 4:00 p.m. on Saturday (August 27, 2016) at Northwood Retirement Community in Jasper, Indiana.

Mildred SchumMillie was born in Orange County, Indiana, on August 2, 1927 to Waldo and Hazel (Weaver) Crowder. She married Robert Neukam on August 6, 1944, and he preceded her in death on November 22, 1969. She then married John Schum in December 8, 1973, and he preceded her in death on September 9, 1988.

Millie retired from Wal-Mart in 1990, and for the past 25 years has acted as manager and tour guide of Dr. Ted’s Musical Marvels.

She attended St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Ireland, Indiana.

She was a past member of the Ferdinand Daughters of Isabella, and she belonged to the Women of the Moose Chapter #648.

She was a teddy bear collector and maker of sock monkeys.

Preceding her in death are a sister, Frieda Crowder, two step-mothers, Gladys and Annabell Crowder, and her companion, Sylvester B. Rasche.

Funeral services for Mildred “Millie” D. Schum will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday (September 1, 2016) at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Ireland, with burial to follow at a later date.

Friends may call from 10:00 a.m. until the 11:00 a.m. service time at the church on Thursday.

Memorial contributions may be made to Palliative Care of Memorial Hospital or to a favorite charity.
