Three motorist all complained of minor injuries in a three vehicle accident that took place along State Road 56 in Ireland Wednesday morning. The Dubois County Sheriff’s Department says just before 9:30 am 17-year old Adam Pennington of Huntingburg was travelling east on State Road 56 and failed to notice a car driven by 17-year old Colton Frick also of Huntingburg had slowed and stopped in traffic in the highway’s eastbound lane.

Deputies say Pennington could not stop his midsize pickup in time and rear ended Frick’s car. They say the impact of the collision pushed the Colton vehicle into the rear of a third car driven by 69-year old Mary Heim of Washington which authorities say was stopped in order to make a left hand turn into the parking lot of Spud’s Food Mart.

Pennington complained of pain to his knees, Colton suffered pain to his head and neck area and Heim complained of pain to her shoulder area. Pennington’s pickup was listed as a total loss. Colton’s passenger car sustained 8-thousand dollars damage. Both had to be towed from the scene. Heim’s car sustained 1-thousand dollars damage and was able to be driven from the scene. Deputies closed State Road 56 for about 30 minutes while the crash was being investigated.

Deputies were assisted at the scene by Indiana State Police, Ireland First Responders and Memorial Hospital EMS
