A traffic stop along Interstate 64 near Ferdinand Thursday afternoon led to the arrest of two California natives and the seizure of a significant quantity of marijuana.
Around 1 pm yesterday a trooper with the Indiana State Police pulled over a 2007 Toyota for speeding along I-64 near the Ferdinand exit.
While conducting the stop, the trooper smelled the odor of marijuana coming from the vehicle, giving him probable cause to conduct a vehicle search.
While searching the vehicle police found a bag containing 1.7 pounds of marijuana.

Both the driver, 20-year old Jocelyn Sanchez of Placentia, CA, and the passenger, 21 year old Edwin Echeverria-Barajas of Anaheim, CA, were placed into custody without incident and transported to the Dubois County Security Center in Jasper where they were booked on Level 6 Felony counts of Possession of Marijuana.
Indiana State Police were assisted by the Ferdinand Police Department.
