NANCY KAY ABELL, 74, has passed away after a sudden illness, surrounded by her family and peacefully in her sleep, at Jasper Memorial Hospital on May 21, 2017.

She was born March 28, 1943, in Indianapolis, Indiana.

Nancy is survived by her husband Peter Abell; her mother Miriam Hanscom; her brother Rod (and Bette) Hanscom; her daughter Tanya Heflin; her son and daughter-in-law Troy and Kris Heflin; her stepdaughters Sarah Abell and Anne (and Sean) Hager; and her grandchildren Nick, Lauren, and Lydia Heflin, Adara Carr, and Alex Hager. She was preceded in death by her father, Wayne Hanscom.

A warm and beautiful woman and a gentle spirit, Nancy radiated love to all who knew her. Nancy was a graduate of Lawrence Central High School, attended Ball State University, and was employed by Southern Hills Counseling Center prior to her retirement.

A celebration of Nancy’s life will be held at Salem United Church of Christ in Huntingburg, Indiana, where she was a member of the choir for 33 years.

A time for greeting the family will begin at 10:00 am with a service at 11:00 am on Saturday, June 10th, 2017.

Nass & Son Funeral Home in Huntingburg has been entrusted with the arrangements.
