Dorothy M. Helming, 92 of Ferdinand died Monday June 12th at her home. Dorothy was born September 6, 1924 in Jasper to Paul & Eleanor (Birk) Kuntz. She married Norbert J. Helming on October 21, 1950 in Jasper, Indiana. He preceded her in death on October 17, 1996.

Dorothy was a homemaker and helped her husband operate the Helming Dairy in Ferdinand. She was a member of Christ the King Parish, St. Ferdinand Church, its St. Anne’s Sodality and choir. She was a member of Ferdinand D of I, and St. Vincent DePaul Society. Dorothy volunteered at Scenic Hills Care Center, The Red Cross, Tri-Cap, and St. Ferdinand Church. Dorothy was a recipient of the Brute’ Award in 1992 and the Mother Teresa Award in 2008.

Survivors include four daughters, Donna (Bud) Potter, Mary Alice (Rod) Zink both of Ferdinand, Elaine (Albert) Astrike of Bretzville, and Ann (Paul) Metzger of Henderson, Ky. One son, Ed (Connie) Helming of Birdseye. Eight grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren also survive. She was preceded in death by four brothers, Claude, Edgar, Denis “Nick”, and Floyd “Flip” Kuntz.

Funeral services will be held 10am Friday June 16th at Christ the King, St. Ferdinand Church with burial to follow in the church cemetery. Friends may call from 2 to 8:00 PM Thursday and from 7 to 9:30 Friday at Becher Funeral Home in Ferdinand.
