Phyllis “Diane” Birchler, 78, of Huntingburg passed away Monday, October 16, 2017, at Northwood Retirement Community in Jasper.

She was born June 17, 1939 in Huntingburg to Gilbert and Mary (Helmrich) Hoffhaus. Phyllis married Alfred Birchler on June 20, 1981 in Salem United Church of Christ in Huntingburg.

She enjoyed crocheting, making quilt tops, canning, cooking, fishing and time with friends and family. Phyllis was a member of St. Peters United Church of Christ in Lamar.

Phyllis is survived by her husband, Alfred of Huntingburg; one son, Scott (Carrie) Hoffhaus of St. Louis and one brother-in-law, Calvin Peutzer of Evanston.

Phyllis was preceded in death by a sister, Shirley Peutzer.

Funeral services will be Thursday at 10:00 AM CDT at Becher Funeral Home in Ferdinand with Rev. Paul “Chip” Jahn and Fr. Anthony Vinson O.S.B presiding.

Burial will follow in St. Boniface Church Cemetery. Visitation will be Wednesday at Becher Funeral Home from 2-8:00PM CDT and Thursday from 7:00 AM CDT until time of services.

Memorial contributions may be made to St. Peters UCC or St. Boniface Parish.
