Rita A. Eckert, age 78, of Huntingburg, passed away at 2:00 a.m., Sunday, October 1, 2017, at The Timbers of Jasper.

She was born September 6, 1939, in Dubois County, Indiana to Claude and Ada (Atkins) Ford; and married Larry Eckert on June 19, 1965, at the Birdseye Christian Church in Birdseye.  Rita was a retired Western & Southern Life Insurance agent.  She was preceded in death by her husband, Larry Eckert, who died on July 16, 2005; and two sisters, Olive Spraggins and Agnes Polen.

She is survived by one sister, Evelyn Young of Birdseye; one brother, Henry Ford of Huntingburg; her companion, Robert Chipley of Huntingburg; bynieces and nephews.

Funeral services for Rita A. Eckert will be held at 2:00 p.m., on Wednesday, October 4, 2017, at the Nass & Son Funeral Home in Huntingburg with burial to follow at Mentor Cemetery near Birdseye.  Reverend Albert Madden will officiate at the service.
