FIREFIGHTER DOWN- FUNERAL ARRANGEMENTS

The Daviess County Sheriff office has officially notified the public of the line-of-duty death of Firefighter Kendall Murphy of the Montgomery (Indiana) Volunteer Fire Department. (Montgomery is located approximately 30 miles north of Jasper.)

Firefighter Murphy and members of the Montgomery and Cannelburg fire departments responded to a motor vehicle crash just before 10:00 P.M. Friday evening on Old U.S. Highway 50. As Firefighter Murphy exited his vehicle, he was struck by a vehicle operated by another responding firefighter. Firefighter Murphy was pronounced dead at the scene.

Firefighter Murphy was 27 years old and is survived by his parents — Dwayne and Katrina; sister – Kelsie Miller; and fiancee – Jessica Padgett. He is a third-generation firefighter. Dwayne Murphy is a career firefighter with Washington, Indiana Fire Department as well as a volunteer with Montgomery VFD. His grandfather, Steve, is also a member of Montgomery VFD.
