Helen A. Englert, age 90, of Jasper, Indiana, passed away at 7:00 a.m. on Monday, February 12, 2018, at the home of her son in Ferdinand, Indiana.
Helen was born in Ferdinand, Indiana, on July 24, 1927, to Leo Sr. and Theresia (Stetter) Gehlhausen. She married Hilbert J. Englert on October 8, 1949 in St. Ferdinand Catholic Church in Ferdinand, Indiana. He preceded her in death on June 27, 2004.
Helen was a member of St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Jasper and the St. Ann’s Society. Helen retired as QMA at Providence Home in Jasper after many years of service, after previous employment at Northwood Good Samaritan in Jasper.
Some of her hobbies had been taking care of her vegetable and flower gardens, and she was known to spend hours working crossword puzzles. She loved reading, animals, and she also loved music, especially waltzes and polka music.
Surviving are three sons, Dennis (Mary Frances) Englert, Jasper, IN; Steve (Rowena) Englert, Schnellville; Dave (Karen) Englert, both of Ferdinand, IN; two daughters, Ann (Roy) Wade, Evansville, IN, and Vida (Jeff) Troutman, Jasper, IN; 17 Grandchildren, 28 great grandchildren; Two sisters, Rosemarie (Roman) Reckelhoff, Cincinnati, OH; Dorothy Fehribach, Jasper, IN; one brother, Eugene (Virlee) Gehlhausen, Ferdinand, IN.
Preceding her in death besides her husband are, an infant son, Michael Leo Englert , two brothers, Irvin Gehlhausen, and Leo Gehlhausen, Jr., and one sister, Esther Reckelhoff.
A Mass of Christian Burial for Helen A. Englert will be held at 9:30 a.m. on Monday, February 19, 2018, at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Jasper, IN, with burial to follow in Fairview Cemetery in Jasper, Indiana.
A visitation will be held from noon.- 6:00 p.m. on Sunday, February 18, 2018, at the Becher-Kluesner Downtown Chapel in Jasper, Indiana. The St. Ann’s Society will pray a rosary at 11:45 a.m. at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Joseph’s Catholic Church, the St. Ann’s Society or to a favorite charity.
