Spectrum cable customers in Jasper and Huntingburg will no longer receive tornado warnings through the local cable interrupter.

The Jasper Police Department says subscribers will continue to receive notifications for tornado warnings via their TVs, however these warnings will be issued from the National Weather Service.

In the past, tornado warnings were issued from the National Weather Service as well as the Jasper Police Department.

In order for the interrupter to be activated, Jasper police officers had to go through a series of steps to record the weather message over the phone.

Once completed, the message would broadcast, but police say recently, it takes far longer for TVs to return to normal broadcasting. Due to those issues, the interrupter will no longer be used for tornado warnings.

The Jasper Police Department encourages residents to have a NOAA weather radio in their home, a weather app on their phone and to stay tuned to local news during severe weather events.
