A Rockport home was destroyed by a fire early Tuesday morning.

The Ohio Township Fire Department responded at around 3 Tuesday morning on North Elm Street, between 3rd and 4th street.

At the time, a family of four was sleeping in the house and were alerted by the family cat about the fire. Rockport Police Chief Jason Overfield Rockport Police Officer Hershal Holley one of the first at the scene, and suffered injuries while making sure everyone got out.

Chief Jason Overfield says the officer has non-life-threating injuries.

When first responders arrived at the scene, the house was engulfed in flames.

None of the family was hurt.

Chief Overfield says the community is showing lots of support for Officer Holley.

The Rockport Chief says the State Fire Marshall Investigation Division is investigating the fire and stayed at the scene throughout the day today, along with a few Ohio Township firefighters to make sure they were no hotspots.
