The Rotary Club of Jasper gathered for the 8th Annual ATHENA International Leadership Award Ceremony last night.

The 2019 Recipient of the ATHENA International Award is Dr. Tracy Lorey. Dr. Lorey is the Superintendent of Greater Jasper Consolidated Schools. The Superintendent says she is grateful for having this opportunity.

Dr. Lorey is a well-known leader in the Jasper Community. Many look up to her and think of her as a role model. Lorey explains how this feels.

Other finalists for the award were Jane Balsmeyer, Jenny Fowler, Judy Jochem-Nino, Nancy Otte, and Jill Wigand. All of these ladies were recognized as possessing qualities of a successful leader in the 21st Century.

The Rotary Club of Jasper also welcomed the President of Ivy Tech, Sue Ellspermann, as their Keynote Speaker. Ellspermann is also the former Lieutenant Governor of Indiana and a former Indiana House Representative.

She spoke on how important it is to have females in leadership roles to look up to. She also reiterated how important it is for females to speak up for themselves, especially if in a job position primarily dominated by males.

ATHENA International is a nonprofit organization founded back in 1982. The organization seeks to support, develop, and honor women leaders.
