James E. Howerton, age 83, of Huntingburg, passed away at 12:50 a.m., Saturday, November 5, 2022, at The Waters of Huntingburg.

He was born June 12, 1939, in Crawford County, Indiana, to David and Marie (Chumbley) Howerton; and married Patricia Stein on April 28, 1977, at Emmanuel Lutheran Church in Tell City.  James retired from Mulzer’s Crushed Stone after 48 years.  He was an avid outdoorsman, who loved riding horses, raising Australian Shepherds as show dogs, his favorite being, Deuce, and raising Herford cattle.  He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Gene and David Howerton; one sister and two brothers-in-law, Mildred (Thomas) Sillings and Marvin Lynch; one son-in-law, Alan Baker.

He is survived by his wife, Patricia Howerton of Huntingburg; three daughters, Jackie (Larry) Price of Princeton, Kimberly (William) Hanson of Indianapolis, and Michelle Baker of Tell City; three sisters, Helen Lynch, Rose Marie Bowman, and Sherry Marsh; one brother, Terry (Nancy) Howerton; two sisters-in-law, Dolores and Lynn Howerton; and by six grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
