James E. Winkler, 80, of Ferdinand, passed away at Scenic Hills at the Monastery in Ferdinand on Wednesday, November 16th.

James was born December 7, 1941, in Jasper to Bernard and Rose Mary (Green) Winkler. He married Phyllis Hoge on October 14, 1967, in St. Ferdinand Church. She preceded him in death on May 20, 2016.

James was a member of Christ the King Parish, St. Ferdinand Church, and Ferdinand American Legion Post 124. He loved attending his grandkid’s sporting and band events. James was very active in Ferdinand Little League for over 20 years.

He is survived by three sons, Alan (Debra) Winkler, Phil (Kerri) Winkler all of Ferdinand, and Brian (LeAnn) Winkler of Braintree, MA.; one daughter, Deb (Joe) Butler of LaGrange, IL.; nine grandchildren, Garrett, Grant, Katie, Nolan, Gavin and Mason Winkler, Shannon, Jason, and Grace Butler.

James was preceded in death by his wife, Phyllis; two brothers, Michael and John Winkler and a sister, Harriet Winkler.

Funeral services will be Monday, November 21st at 11:00 AM in St. Ferdinand Church. Burial will follow in the church cemetery with Ferdinand American Legion Post 124 conducting military graveside rights.

Visitation will be Monday at the church from 8:30 AM until the time of services.
