Edwina E. Wendholt, 87, of Ferdinand passed away Tuesday, May 16th at Scenic Hills at the Monastery in Ferdinand. Edwina was born on July 6, 1935, in Siberia to Edwin and Alma (Troesch) Elmer. She was united in marriage to Henry C. Wendholt on August 20, 1955, in St. Martin of Tours Church in Siberia. Henry preceded her in death on January 26, 2006.

Edwina was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandma. She was a charter member of the Ferdinand Home Extension, Ferdinand Legion Post 124 Auxiliary, Ferdinand Senior Citizens, and the Hoosier Campers. She worked at the General Electric Company and Best Home Furnishings for many years. She also did housekeeping for many families in the Jasper area.

Edwina was a member of Christ the King Church of Ferdinand and its St. Ann’s Sodality. She enjoyed gardening, camping, and playing cards. She was an avid quilter and made a quilt for each of her grandchildren for their wedding, and a baby quilt for each great-grandchild. She enjoyed cooking and spending time with her family and friends.

Survivors include one daughter, Karen A (Gene) Harpenau of St. Anthony, Four sons, Paul E. (Sheila) Wendholt and Joseph C. (Danette) Wendholt both of Huntingburg, Donald E. (Linda) Wendholt and Alan O. (Gail) Wendholt both of St. Anthony, one daughter-in-law, Wilma Wendholt of St. Anthony. 16 grandchildren and 26 great-grandchildren; two sisters, Mildred Sander of Ireland and Alfrieda Matthews of Rockport. She was preceded in death by one son Norman Wendholt, one brother, Albert Elmer, and a sister, Dorothy Elmer.

A mass of Christian Burial will be held on Tuesday, May 23rd at 10:00 AM in St. Ferdinand Church, with burial to follow in the church cemetery. Visitation will be held on Monday, May 22nd from 4:00 until 8:00 PM and Tuesday from 7:00 until 9:30 AM at Becher Funeral Home in Ferdinand.
