Shirley A. Hackman, age 89, of Huntingburg, Indiana, passed away on Sunday, July 21, 2024, at Rivercrest Senior Living in New Albany.  Shirley was born June 27, 1935, to Elmer “Billy” and Clarissa (Mehling) Fischer.  She married Gerhard Hackman on October 10, 1959, at the Archabbey Church in St. Meinrad.  Shirley was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Huntingburg.  Shirley was first and foremost a devoted mother, wife and grandmother.  In her early years, she was elected and took pride in being a member of Indiana Girls State.  She worked as a dental assistant prior to marriage and then focused on being a homemaker thereafter.  She worked part-time with St. Mary’s Title One helping young students sharpen their reading skills.  She enjoyed crafting, cooking, playing cards, antiquing and bird watching.

She is survived by her son, Matthew (Mary Beth) Hackman of Floyds Knobs; one sister, Carmen Fischer of St. Meinrad; one brother, Samuel (Laura) Fischer of Pendleton, KY; two grandchildren, Lauren Hackman of New Albany and Claire Hackman of Charlotte, NC.  Along with her parents, Shirley was preceded in death by her husband, Gerhard Hackman; two brothers, David and Timothy Fischer; and sister, Cindi Lemen.

Funeral services for Shirley Hackman will be held at 10:00 a.m., E.D.T., on Monday, July 29, 2024, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Huntingburg with burial to follow at St. Mary’s Cemetery.
