Anna “Louise” Dewees, 101, of Columbus passed from this life on Wednesday, August 21, 2024, at 4:14 p.m., at her son and daughter-in-law’s residence in Nashville.
Mrs. Dewees was born on June 6, 1923, in Farmersburg, Indiana, the daughter of James Murphy and Mammie Frances Sparks Yates. On October 2, 1941, she married Reverend Jewel Dewees.
Mrs. Dewees was a homemaker and a very active member of the United Methodist Conference and Church; she had lastly attended Community Church of Columbus. Throughout the years she and her husband served many congregations and churches till his passing. Mrs. Dewees’ main focus was serving the Lord and reading her Bible. She had a love and tremendous talent for writing, and over the years had several books published. Another passion of hers was sewing and quilting.
Survivors include her children, Gary (Brenda) Dewees of Nashville and Karen (Gary) Jones of Dubois; grandchildren, Jewellia (Rick) Stratman, Chuck (Kim) Johnson, Dustin (Heather) Dewees, Jason (Christine) Dewees, Philip (Amy) Jones, Carl Jones, Matthew (Kristy) Dewees, Kimberly (John) Walter, Clarissa (Jeff) Oaldon, Wayne Dewees, Laura (Jeff) Henderson, Dominick (Anna) Dewees, and James (Jennifer) Cunningham. She was blessed with 29 great grandchildren and 19 great great grandchildren; surviving siblings, Robert Yates, Earl Yates, Charles Yates, Ruth Halstead; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Reverend Jewel Dewees on June 21, 1997; children, Carl Dewees and Margaret Johnson; and siblings, Albert Yates, Howard Yates, Harry Yates, Joe Yates, Helen Clark, Jaunita Swalls, Ethel Carrico, and Rosealee Nukolls.
The funeral service will be held at 12:00 p.m. Monday at Barkes, Weaver & Glick Funeral Home on Jonathan Moore Pike with Pastor Jim Hudson officiating.
Family and friends may gather for visitation from 10:00 a.m. till time of service Monday at the funeral home.
Mrs. Dewees will be laid to rest next to her husband at Garland Brook Cemetery.
