James L. Ebert, of Ferdinand, passed away peacefully on August 6, 2024, at the age of 81.

Born on October 20, 1942, to Viola (Schlachter) and Leo Ebert of Ferdinand, he was the third of five children.

He was united in marriage to Kathleen Seng on August 19, 1967, at St. Raphael Catholic Church in Dubois.

Jim was preceded in death by his loving wife of 50 years Kathleen in 2017. He is survived by his four children, Julie (John) Becher of Mariah Hill, Jeff (Theresa) Ebert of St. Meinrad, Jill (Casey) Ebert-Lasher of Evanston, Kim (Jim Zink) Ebert of Raleigh, NC.; four siblings, Fred (Nellie) Ebert, Betty (Ray) Tretter, Diane (Tony) Herbig, and Elaine (Tom) Keller all of Ferdinand; and eleven grandchildren, Mason (Kylee), Mitchel, Murray, Marcus, Mia Becher, Ben, Claudia, Luke Ebert, Cora, Joe Lasher, and Abram Zink.

He graduated from Ferdinand High School where he was a Ferdinand Crusader Cheerleader and was a member of St. Meinrad Catholic Church. He was a member of St. Meinrad K of C #5599. Jim served on the Board of Directors of St. Meinrad Volunteer Fire Department. Jim loved attending his grandchildren’s sporting events.

Jim was a Pioneer seed sales agent with his wife for 40 years and a Ferdinand Farmers Insurance Group representative for 14 years. He was elected to serve his community in the Spencer County Council. He rose before the crack of dawn but could fall asleep anywhere, including at mass, graduations, and funerals. He was a loud extrovert who loved to laugh and make others laugh.

A mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 AM CDT in St. Meinrad Church on Monday, August 12th. Burial will be at a later date in St. Raphael’s Cemetery in Dubois.

Visitation will be at St. Meinrad Church on Monday, August 12thfrom 8:00 AM until 11:00 AM CDT.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Sisters of St. Benedict of Ferdinand or a charity of your choice.
