
James L. Whitehead, age 84, of Otwell, Indiana, passed away surrounded by family at 9:50 a.m. on Thursday, August 22, 2024, at Memorial Hospital and Health Care Center in Jasper, Indiana.
Jim was born in Otwell, Indiana, on June 4, 1940, to Clarence and Ethel (Craig) Whitehead. He married his wife of 57 years, Loretta M. Brown on April 20, 1963, at the Otwell Methodist Church. Up until her death on September 15, 2020, Jim had been her primary caregiver for the several previous years.
He was a 1958 graduate of Otwell High School.
He was a lifelong farmer, having farmed with his father, Clarence, and brothers Donnie and Horace since he was a young boy. He helped run Cane Creek Hunting Preserve with his brother Donnie for many years.
He had a passion for antique tractors and is well known for his red Farmall tractor on top the silo on Whitehead Brothers Farm in Otwell. He was also very proud of his grandsons and loved talking about them. He enjoyed spending time with his friends at the Local Circle K Mini Mart in Otwell every morning and afternoon.
Surviving is one daughter, April (Mike) Bauer, Middleton, WI, two grandsons, Tyler and Alex Bauer, and one sister, Carol (Paul) Thompson.
Preceding him in death besides his wife are five siblings, Anita Jean, Horace, Bob, Bill, and Donnie.
April would like to thank Jim’s family and friends for helping him over the past few years and the critical care unit of Jasper Memorial Hospital for their exceptional care.
Graveside services for James L. Whitehead will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, September 20, 2024, at the Otwell Cemetery in Otwell, Indiana.
